"khazâd ai-mênu!" Painting Log

Postby Spiney Norman » Sun Sep 25, 2011 11:57 pm

I'm embarking on a new hobby adventure, to paint up a SBG Dwarf force for a campaign based in Eriador in the mid 3rd age

The colour scheme I've chosen is loosely based on the "Durin's Folk" scheme from the Khazad Dum source book with a few tweaks and modifications, I've chosen to paint the dwarves main cloth areas blue to tie them in with their homeland, the blue mountains.

First up is my main character: Ragnar Firebeard; King of the Ered Luin, he claims to be descended from the Royal Line of Nogrod, though no-one is really sure.

Ragnar is constantly accompanied by his faithful Khazad Guard

I hope you like them, my intention is that the bases will pick up a few patches of snow at some point, but I've not figured out exactly what I'm going to use to do that yet. This week's challenge is to paint up the Battle Company for the start of games at the weekend, then I'll have more characters and warriors, a banner, ballista and rangers to paint up before all is said and done.

I bought some snow from a railway model shop which was fairly cheap. However initial experiments didn't go well, it seems that whatever this stuff is wasn't supposed to be used with glue because it doesn't matter if I use PVA or superglue the snow dissolves into the glue before it dries to leave a mushy mess on the base.

Next: GW snow flock

Nice-looking dwarves, and I'm a fan of your color scheme! Green gets overused in Middle-Earth, IMO.
