Alternate Rohan Colour schemes?

Postby ukrocky » Sun Jan 22, 2012 7:58 pm

Hey guys,

So I'm taking a fully mounted rohan army to the GT this year (20 sons of eorl ftw), and just wondered if you guys have seen/think any different colour combinations for rohan would look good?

Cheers!

I've painted up some of my rohan heroes in purple/gold and they look quite good. Have also seen red/gold that looks rather good on footmen.

Blue and white. Because all the cool kids paint their armies blue and white.

*Looks at blue-and-white Elves, Arnorians, Pre-heresy World Eaters, Swan Knights, Dwarves and Tomb Kings*

Not sure I'm brave enough to do white yet, but I've been considering blue with something.

Blue with bright silver would look nice imo.

Well..I have done quite a few RoR...I did a blue with brown scheme on 6 of them. http://www.freewebs.com/sithious/ROR1.jpg I have also done red, various greens and such...all pretty standard stuff (nothing I would pat myself on the back for coming up with). Blue Goes well with grey, gold, silver and brown very well. With Green and blue you get a dominance fight and with red and Blue you get a clash. Both can be worked out with proper mixing to change hues for balance.
Still getting over 20 Sons of Eorl though...costly choice.

Tell me about it :P I wanted to use them though.

My other army for GT is looking like kataphracts...

I prepared this article to upload here on TLA. However I found it a right pain to upload:

Part 2 is here:

Let me know if you find it useful and I'll try harder to upload it.

I came up with a good alt scheme for my Rohirrim, even made an article for them in the days of the old TLA

Basically I used a more vivid green on their cloaks (dark angels highlighted through goblin) and on the other cloth and shields I used a deepish blue. For the armour I painted the mail, bracers and edging to the helm and very clean silver and the leather parts of the armour I left black and painted with gloss varnish.

The overall effect was strikingly different, mainly because unless youre painting haradrim or high elves almost no-one uses blue for lotr minis I'll check later and see if I have any pictures on my laptop.
