Ideas for Future Supplements

Mon Apr 04, 2016 3:30 pm

Hey Guys,

Since Adam Troke stated at Throne of Skulls that the Appendices of The Lord of the Rings will be the source for future supplements, I started flipping through those pages in the back of the book and LoME. Here are some supplement ideas which I think GW might make within the next four years.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies 2.0
- Almost certain this will be released in October 2016.
Good
Dain Ironfoot, Lord of the Iron Hills
    Iron Hills Dwarf Captain
    Iron Hills Dwarf Warrior
Iron Hills Dwarf Mountain Ram Rider
    Iron Hills Ballista
    Erebor War Chariot

Evil
    Goblin Mercenaries
    Gundabad Troll
    Gundabad Troll Catapult
    Gundabad Warg Riders

The Host of the Hammerhand
- Seams highly likely. GW expressed interest in this back in LoME and Helm receives more attention in the Appendix A than any other Pre-Theoden king of Rohan except Eorl the Young.
Good
    Helm Hammerhand
    Helm’s Guard

Evil
    Wulf
    Royalblood Chieftain of Dunland
    Royalbood Huscarl
    Dunland Berserker
    Dunlending Horsemen

The Kinstrife
- Also appears likely for the same a reason as Helm. The attention it receives from Tolkien in Appendix A.
Good
    Vidugavia, King of Rhovanion
    Eldacar
    Ornendil
    Captain of Rhovanion
    Warrior of Rhovanion
    Horsemen of Rhovanion

Evil
    Castimir the Usurper

The Rings of Power
- Possible. GW expressed interest back LoME, and the entire history of Sauron and the Elves in the Second Age is given more or less in full between the Appendices and the Council of Elrond chapter. GW would not be contstrained by its license (ie. no Silmarillion)
Good
    Celebrimbor
    Gwaith-i-Mirdain
    High Elf Knight
    High Elf Ranger
    High Elf Chariot
    High Elf War Catapult

Evil
    Annatar, Lord of Gifts
    Mordor Vanguard

The Last Alliance
- Maybe, but I don't think its likely. If GW had wanted fill out the Numenorean list I think they would have done so a long time ago. But, never say never.
Good
    Anarion
    Numenorean Royal Guard
    Numenorean Knight
    Numenorean Catapult Battery

Evil
    Dwarven Mercenaries

The War of the Ring
- Possible. The RotK rulebook has a whole slew of scenarios focusing on the northern theater of the War of Ring. It would also be a great chance to fill out a variety of factions. The scenarios would deal with the three assaults on Lothlorien, the battle of Dale, and the invasion of East Rohan, among other things.
Good
    Brand, King of Dale
    Galadhrim Siege Catapult
    Galadhrim Pathwalker
    Quickbeam
    Beachbone
    Meneldor
    Landroval
    Grimbeorn
    Beorning
    Huorn

Evil
    Black Hearted Tree
    Werewolf
    Easterling King
    Easterling Siege Bow
    Dragon Guard

The Deeds of Thorongil
- This too receives a decent amount of attention in Appendix A. Another Aragorn profile, and a young Denethor II profile when he was still sane. GW seams to like doing profiles of the same character from different periods in their history.
Good
    Thorongil
    Denethor, Lord of Gondor

Evil
    Corsair Ballista

Those are my ideas. Thoughts?

I'd love to have all of them. Plus the source books that would then be necessary for gaming with them ;)

My apologies guys. I was completely misinformed about GW's license. They do NOT have the rights to the Appendices, only the main text of the LoTR. Bummer. I still think some of the ideas mentioned above are permissible, just much more limited especially in terms of named heroes.

How does this go? Does GW have rights to Lord of the Rings and Hobbit books, but not for example to Silmarillion?

GW has the rights to the following:
-The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (theatrical and extended)
-The Hobbit film trilogy (theatrical and extended)
-The Hobbit book
-The Lord of the Rings main text ONLY. Not the appendices.

Ok, thank you.
The appendices would have had plenty to play with.

A proper go at the Battle of Five Armies (Thranduil on Stag please) and the War of the Ring would be amazing.

I was just saying the exact same thing
I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.

Where does one find their contract? Have they said they don't have the rights to the appendices?
